After a disrupted month of cancelled games, the final gameweek of January always looked like one packed with difficult fixtures across the board. This proved to be the case, as the "middle order" of the club struggled to bring home the points.
With similarly difficult match-ups, our Men's & Women's 1s each faced competition from promotion rivals in City of Bath and Firebrands. Both our first teams had managed narrow victories in the early season reverse fixtures, so knew our opponents would be out for revenge. But our elite squads proved too much for their challengers as both games finished with B&W victories, ensuring that both our 1s maintain the astonishing record of remaining unbeaten and sitting top of their respective divisions.
Sunday also saw the return of our Mixed Team - who overcame Royal Wootton Bassett to progress to the next round on their road to the Leigh Valley finals in June!
The Stats
By H
🌟 Player of the Week - Toni Clothier 🌟
Starred in a vital 2-0 win to help keep B&WJ1s top of the league!
Girl Power proved to be the not-so-secret ingredient once again, with L1s & L2s both securing wins with clean sheets!
Honourable Mentions:
Kerry Hodson-Jeffery & Laura Grand with clean sheets yet again to help keep their teams steady at the top of their leagues
Tom Bryant - Another Hero bonus + 2 Goals & 1 Assist. For the 2nd game in a row, a late drag flick sealed all 3pts to keep the M1s top of the league. >> Tom has scored in every game so far this season!<<
Jennie Hatts - Scored both goals in the L2's 2-0 win to earn MVP & a clean sheet bonus
Daniel Lusmore - Helped M2's recover a point after being 3-0 down against UWE 1s. Dan scored 2, the second levelling the scoreline and earning himself a Hero bonus.

Men's 1st Team
Bristol & West [3-2] City of Bath
Mens 1s won 3-2 in a top of the table clash against City of Bath.
Tom Bryant drag nutmegs the keeper to secure all 3pts after we blew a 2-0 lead in typical B&W fashion. Still undefeated💪🏻
Next up: this Thursday night under the lights at Home vs Chippenham 19:30pm push back (I think) - come and show your support!🏑
Goals came from @Edward Ledger and @Thomas Bryant x 2
Assists from @David Cadman @Edward Ledger and @Thomas Bryant
MOTM - @Doug Tilley for his awesome defensive work and attacking down the right.
DOTD - @David Cadman you cannot leave your crocs in the changing room, swing and miss a shot on top D, and also mistake someone’s insulin case for a glasses case.🤦🏼♂️
Women's 1st Team
Bristol Firebrands 3 [0-2] Bristol & West Jaspers 1
Ladies 1s won 2-0 in a top of the table Derby away against firebrands 🥳.
Starting 2023 with only a point over their rivals this was a crucial game for our Women's 1s to tighten their grip at the top of the league. We controlled the game from the start with a goal in each half and a couple of goal-line incidents missed which should have seen the margin increase.
The team remains unbeaten and with a rock-solid defence having only conceded 4 goals in 11 games! This victory along with results elsewhere sees the team pull 4 points clear at the top of the division.
Goals: Annie and Toni
Assists: Becca and Toni
Player of the match: Toni 🙌🧡
Men's 2nd Team
Bristol UWE [3-3] Bristol & West 2
Men's 2s - exciting game away at UWE.
0-0 at halftime....
Made it interesting in the second half. Gifting UWE a 3-0 lead after a few poorly dealt with UWE long balls.
Rallied with 15 mins to play scoring 3 of you our own from Lus (x2) and Faerber to pull it level.
A few questionable umpiring decisions late on cost us the full points, but probably fair to share the points at the final whistle.
Final score 3-3.
MOM: Faerber
DOD: Lus 😜🧦
Women's 2nd Team
Bristol & West Jaspers 2 [2-0] Wotton-Under-Edge 2
Ladies 2s won after a good game 2-0!! Glad to see everyone back after the cancelled trainings/matches !!
X2 cracking goals from Jennie
Assists from Dibbs and Tabby
POTM: Jennie
Thanks to all who watch 😁
Men's 3rd Team
Bridgwater 1 [6-3] Bristol & West 3
3’s lost 6-3 to Bridgewater……very disappointing!! 😟
Women's 3rd Team
Bristol & West Jaspers 3 [5-0 walkover] Knowle 3
Unfortunately the Women's 3s game was cancelled by the opposition who were unable to field a team. Of course the squad would have rather played, but we'll take the 5 goals as we push for the promotion places.
Men's 4th Team
Bristol Firebrands 3 [1-0] Bristol & West 4
Brands 3s XIII vs M4 XI: 0-1 loss 😢

Everyone gave 10/10 right up to the end. I cant ask more from my blokes. Same again please next week.
A deflected hit in from 5m outside D ballooned over the D landing safely with Sam Horner. Had we held on? A whistle blew. Confusion. Was it the vital point we craved and rightly deserved?!
Those who turned up to wield a whistle today didn't like yet another attack fizzling out; and so felt they'd spice up everyone's lives by gifting out a short; being the last action of the game. The rest you just knew was inevitably going to happen... The short snuk into the net.
The apologetic oppo agreed a draw would have been fair on the run of play.
MOM Doey
DEF shared Mark Sullivan and James Plowman
Shout out to vital support from Bryce; @Matt Sullivan & family
Women's 4th Team
Clifton Robinsons 6 [10-0] Bristol & West Jaspers 4 (Dev)
Ladies 4s had a tough day yesterday, losing 0-10 to top of the league Clifton Robinsons.
Massive shoutout to Niamh, our player of the match, in her first senior game - in goal!
Defender Bonus goes to Viv, a close runner up for POTM.
A great game played, followed by delicious milkshakes, so not all is lost! 🏑🧡🥛
Men's 5th Team
Bristol & West 5 [1-2] Westbury & United Banks 4
5s succumbed 1-2 at home having taken the lead. Close match where we scrapped away but never really quite gelled as a team. Felt we were unlucky to lose after having the better of most of the second half.
MOTM a superb Ben Swannell in goal
Defender Bonus to Matt Bull who kept a clear head on the ball and made some telling tackles.
DoD self nominated to Simon B for some accurate 16s hits-outs that went direct to the opposition.
Men's 6th Team
Bristol & West 6 (Dev) [3-1] Old Bristolians 6 Dev
6s made it three in a row with a 3-1 win at home vs OBs. A strong second half performance, with the youngsters Joe, Charlie and Matthew starting to connect well and play with more confidence.
3 goals from skipper Higgy, but it was the team performance across the pitch that secured the points.
MOM goes to Jimmy. Only a second game in pads, awesome that you stepped in to help Jimmy Wilson but a great performance that kept more than a few out! Well done mate.
Mixed Team
Bristol & West Mixed [3-2] Royal Wootton Bassett Mixed
After a long wait between rounds, the Mixed Team faced off in the 2nd round of the cup against Royal Wootton Bassett. A tough game saw us go behind before pulling it back to set up an exciting finale.
In the dying moments a penalty stroke saw us avoid the shuffles and progress through to the next round.
