Gameweek Roundup - 25th March

Last weekend was an absolute triumph for the club. This week ... a little more tricky! After their success last week, our men's 1s were unable to see off Leominster, our 2s lads didn't have the legs against Gwent and it's probably best pass over the 3s game against league toppers Mendip.

However, this week does give us the opportunity to celebrate one of the less covered teams. Our men's 5s blew away local rivals Westbury in their final game, putting 9 past their opponents without reply. 6 of them coming from club legend Don Griffen! From Don's 3 games recorded in the fantasy stats, he's bagged 8 goals. A goals-per-game record that Lus could only dream of. 😜

Player of the Week

Donald Griffen

Scoring 6 in a 9-0 smashing of Westbury. If like me, you're wondering why Don didn't receive MVP of the game, it's because he didn't show up to the pub to pay off his double hattrick!

Honourable Mentions:

Charlie Wells - First game (I believe) for the club. Kept a clean sheet on his debut between the sticks for the 5s!

Andy Jowett - 2 Assists and a Clean Sheet for the 5s

Gareth Nichols - Scored his 1st goal for the club and nominated MVP for M1s

Sam Ovenden - 1 Assist, Clean Sheet & MVP

Will Braithwaite - 1 Goal + 1 Assist for M1s

Steven Chan - 2 Goals + 1 Assist & a Clean Sheet for M5s

James Baber - 1 Goal + 2 Assists & a Clean Sheet for M5s

Tabby Moreton - Signed off a great season with 2 more goals, 16 in total!

Match Summary

Men's 1st Team

Leominster [3-3] Bristol & West

The 1s are taking it to the wire for promotion… 3-3 draw today against Leominster means it’s all down to next week! Win and we’re up 🙌🙌

Men's 2nd Team

Bristol & West 2 [1-0] Gwent 1

Bristol & West Men’s 2s saw their hopes of finishing second snatched from them by an organised Gwent 1s.

The 2s started with purpose as they sought to pressure Gwent from the start. Early forays into the Welsh half resulted in nothing as the visiting side demonstrated resolute grit and steel.

Coming into half time the game was a stalemate. Having reflected and discussed the 2s went out again to secure the victory and 3 points.

However, the second half brought an upturn in Gwent appetite.

With nice counter attack and interplay, Gwent found an attacker at the back post unmarked and he duly slotted to put them ahead. Despite strong pressure in the final 10 minutes the 2s could not convert. The final whistle blew, and with it the 2s unbeaten record for 2023.

Women's 2ndTeam

Bristol & West Jaspers 2 [3-3] Badminton & Pucklechurch 1

Women’s 2s had a great final game against BAPs drawing 3-3 😁. Brought it back from 3-1 down in the second half to secure a point and a 3rd place finish.
